—Each year, 58% of food produced in Canada is lost or wasted. By donating food, you are actively fighting food waste and benefiting the community.

Donating food is easy—let us know when you’ll have food to donate, and volunteers will sign up on our app to pick up your donation and drop it off at service agencies that get the food people who need it.

The Leftovers Rescue Food App helps us protect our environment by tracking food waste data that we can use to show food producers – who can use it to restructure their policies. Saving our environment starts with producers preventing tonnes of carbon and methane emissions associated with food waste from polluting the atmosphere.

There are many misconceptions surrounding food donation. Whether people are concerned about how food will be handled, used, or served, there is a common worry that most foods can’t be donated or that we can be held liable for harmful situations. Our food donors can rest assured, with the knowledge that the Rescue Food App cuts down on their expenditures associated with the cost of food storage and the disposal of excess food. Donors also have the added value impact of knowing that they are making a valuable contribution to those in need in their communities.

We are currently operating in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hinton, and Airdrie. Food donations are vital to the work that we do.

In Canada alone, 11.2 million tonnes of avoidable (edible) food is thrown out annually.
